Savoury Churros

Not got a sweet tooth… these savoury churros are a brilliant snack alternative to your usual favourite

Ingredients
• 235ml water
• 50g unsalted butter
• 1 pinch of salt
• 100g gluten free plain flour
• 50g Smash Instant Mashed Potato
• ½ tsp cayenne pepper
• 1 tsp dried oregano
• 1 egg
• Vegetable oil for frying
• To serve, savoury dips and selection of meats, cheese and olives
Method
  1. Place the water, butter, and salt in a medium sized pan. Bring the mixture to a boil then reduce the heat. Stir in the flour, Smash Instant Mashed Potato, cayenne pepper and oregano until fully combined, then turn off the heat.
  2. Leave the mixture to cool for a few mins. Then place in a mixer with the egg and mix on high until smooth. When it’s done, transfer into a piping bag with a star nozzle.
  3. Heat up enough oil in a large pan or fryer to deep fry the churros at 180C.
  4. Pipe the churros directly into the oil, using scissors to cut them at about 4 inches long each as they leave the tip of the piping bag.
  5. Let them fry for 2-3 mins on each side, flipping to make sure they are fried all around and golden brown.
  6. Remove from the oil and place on a paper towel for a minute.
  7. Repeat the process until all the batter is used up. Serve with savoury dips and a selection of meats, cheese and olives.
