Industry worries over new immigration plans

UK Hospitality Chief Executive Kate Nicholls has said changes to the immigration system could worsen the industry’s labour shortages. The new plans were announced by the Home Office in December 2023. They mean minimum salaries for skilled workers will rise from £26,200 to £38,700 this year. The Immigration Salary List will replace the Shortage Occupation List. The types of jobs on the list will also be reviewed. The trade body said these changes will shrink the talent pool and make it harder for businesses to find skilled staff.
