Celebrating Chinese New Year

On Sunday (February 10th), it’s Chinese New Year and the start of the Year of the Snake. Chinese legend has it that Buddha, the Emperor of the Heavens, invited all the animals to share in his New Year’s celebrations but only 12 turned up. To reward them for their loyalty, Buddha named a year after each one in the order that they arrived. The snake was Buddha’s sixth guest and is therefore the sixth sign of the Chinese Zodiac.
In China, the festivities start with a New Year’s Eve dinner when all the family get together. Normally, fish will be served with dumplings and a New Year cake that’s made from glutinous rice flour and sugar.
Why not mark the occasion by treating diners to this deliciously simple and healthy steamed fish dish, which you can serve with rice or noodles. It cooks in minutes. Alternatively, serve your drinks menu with a fortune cookie for a cost effective but impactful gesture that should help bring you future fortune from the increased loyalty of an appreciative clientele!
