Industry says ‘no’ to Holiday Tax

Hospitality businesses have urged the Government to scrap a controversial holiday tax they say will deter families from supporting bars and restaurants on their break. UKHospitality is among a coalition of businesses that have warned the new Chancellor of the devastating impact the tourist tax could have on jobs, tourism and the economy. They say the levy, just launched in Edinburgh and opposed by 56% of people, would be ‘economically and socially damaging’ and lead to 33,000 fewer jobs, a hit of £2.2bn to GDP and a £1.6bn tax hike in a cost-of-living crisis.
